DO Penedès (Designation of Origin)
|
This region lies in the low hills that run from the Mediterranean sea to Montserrat Mountain across several small rivers valleys.
It is one of Catalonia's most internationally well-known regions and produces some 1,500,000 hectolitres a year, a large portion of which is used to make cava.
Its temperate Mediterranean climate, with little rainfall and abundant sunlight, ensures optimum conditions for the production of a wide variety of wines acclaimed for their quality and finesse.
DO Penedès white wines are light, fresh, fruity and aromatic with a moderate alcohol content. The reds, which are produced on a smaller scale, are smooth, velvety, complex and elegant with a distinct personality.

White, rosé and semi-sparkling wines must be aged for at least six months, whilst red wines must be aged for fifteen, including an initial stage in oak casks, followed by a subsequent period in the bottle.
