Costa Daurada: Nature destination
Costa Daurada offers a wealth of gems for nature lovers. Its network of protected areas includes a wide variety of landscapes and remarkable biodiversity.
The best specimens of Mediterranean mountain vegetation are found in the inland mountain ranges of Montsant Nature Park and the Prades Mountains, which are moreover home to a large number of mammals and birds of prey.
Costa Daurada also has a network of environmentally valuable protected coastal areas, where visitors will find great bird diversity amidst the wetlands and dunes. These areas are dominated by Mediterranean scrub and dotted with palmettos, the only palm species native to Europe.
Costa Daurada's nature reserve network is also equipped with the necessary infrastructure for visitors. The welcome centres at the nature park and other protected areas and a slew of tourist information offices offer visitors all the information and assistance they need to enjoy this striking natural heritage to the full.
The offer is rounded out by guides specialised in nature interpretation and several sporting and nature activity companies, making Costa Daurada an exceptional destination for lovers of the great outdoors.
The Nature Park lies in the north of El Priorat County and is home to one of the most imposing landscapes in all Tarragona Province.
The Poblet National-Interest Nature Reserve lies within the county of La Conca de Barberà in the towns of L'Espluga de Francolí, Vimbodí and Poblet.
The Costa Daurada shoreline is home to a series of small areas that have been declared official nature reserves in order to protect their unique landscapes and high biodiversity.
The region's offer of protected areas is rounded out by a wealth of additional parks and reserves, above all in the Mediterranean mountain areas.
